“We often hear that real estate is “local” and as far as pricing, inventory levels and those kinds of kids of details are concerned our Bonner and boundary County markets are specific to events and factors at work in our area. But real estate is also “national”: the Flood Insurance program, the way banks deal with short sales, the various proposed new pieces of legislation to deal with the mortgage industry; all of this greatly affects us as LOCAL REALTORS®. There is a very real connection between the local market and events at the national level.
That is why it is important for us, as REALTORS®, to participate in issues at the national level. One of the beautiful aspects of North Idaho is that we are isolated from some of the maladies of the country (too many people/traffic/crime/concrete/smog, etc.), but one of the things we need to pay attention to is overcoming isolation. When we attend conferences that bring fellow REALTORS® together from all over the United States, and sometimes other parts of the world, there is a cross-pollinization of ideas that occur, and you begin to see the bigger picture. There are 993,715 REALTOR® members at the National Association of REALTORS® and each one of us has a voice if you chose to use it.”
